Former Riverdale standout runner Eli Cramer dies after being struck by vehicle in Virginia

Eli Cramer, a former cross country and track and field standout at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, died Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while training for an upcoming track meet for Milligan University, the school announced in a statement.

Cramer, a sophomore distance runner at Milligan in Elizabethton, Tenn., was a first-team runner on the 2019 DNJ all-area cross country team. He running with teammates when the incident occurred near Williamsburg, Virginia.

The team was preparing for the Colonial Relays, being hosted by William & Mary University.

"We are incredibly shocked and saddened to share that members of our men’s cross country/track and field team were in an accident involving a vehicle this evening while running near Williamsburg, VA," Milligan University's statement said. "Sophomore Eli Cramer succumbed to his injuries. Seniors Alex Mortimer and Eli Baldy also were injured. Mortimer currently is undergoing treatment. Baldy was treated and released.
