Early morning crash kills Highland teen
The crash early Saturday morning killed Highland High School student Kelly Tracy, 16, and injured her brother, Matt, 17. They were driving to perform in the Gilbert Days Parade as members of the Highland High School marching band. According to police, Contreras-Galdean failed to yield as he was making a left turn at the intersection of Sossaman and Guadalupe roads. Police believe he was impaired by alcohol at the time of the early morning crash.
Contreras-Galdean is being held without bond. Police say he admitted to being in the country illegally.
A memorial for Kelly will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at City of Grace Church, 655 E. University Drive, Mesa. An account has been set up at Washington Mutual to help the Tracy family.
