Police: 2 Killed When Camaro Goes Airborne, Lands On Another Car

DETROIT (WWJ) – Police say a speeding driver caused a crash that killed two people, late Thursday afternoon, in Detroit.

According to police, the driver of a Chevy Camaro was traveling at high rate of speed along Greenfield Rd. when he lost control near Pickford crashing into a Chevy Malibu.

Johnny Thomas, Commander at Detroit’s 12th Precinct, says they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

“We had an individual traveling at a high rate of speed — lost control of his vehicle, actually struck a curb here,” said Thomas. “The vehicle then went airborne and struck another vehicle that was occupied by four individuals — that vehicle was actually parked.”

Four people were inside the Malibu. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and a rescue crew had to extricate the three others.

The driver of the Camero was hospitalized — along with two others in the parked vehicle.

“The first thing I seen when I came over here is the dog,” said one witness. “I wasn’t even worried about the collision, nor who was in the car – I just seen a bloody dog sitting right here. I cleaned her face with a tissue.”

Animal Control did come and take the dog away. WWJ’s Stephanie Davis says the dog was hesitant and kept looking back at the car — possibly for her owner.

No names have been released.
