UPDATE: Woman sentenced to 10 years for hitting, killing teen

KOUNTZE - Ashley Hardwick Sawyer was sentenced to 10 years in prison this morning for manslaughter in the December 2007 death of a Lumberton High School student.

Judge Brit Plunk sentenced Sawyer at the Hardin County Courthouse, according to the Hardin County District Attorney's Office.

Sawyer was accused of leaving the scene after hitting 17-year-old Zachary Spears who was walking along Old Silsbee Highway, according to the archives. Additional charges filed at the time were manslaughter and failure to render aid.
