24-year-old charged in fatal hit-and-run
LUMBERTON - A 24-year-old Beaumont woman was released on $75,000 bond Friday and faces one count of intoxicated manslaughter in connection the hit-and-run death of a Lumberton teen early last week.

Ashley Hardwick turned herself in at the Hardin County Jail at about 7 a.m. Friday morning. She's charged in connection with the death of 17-year-old Zachary Spears, who was struck and killed at about 6 p.m. Dec. 18 as he walked on the shoulder of Old Silsbee Highway with another person.

Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins said the vehicle Hardwick is believed to have been driving, a 2000 maroon Mercedes SUV, was impounded Thursday and taken to the Jefferson County Regional Crime Lab.

Spears was a junior at Lumberton High School.
