Port Neches man sentenced in reckless manslaughter case

A Port Neches man was sentenced to 18 years in prison today in connection with a deadly crash in 2006 that killed a mother and daughter.

Colin Lee Romero, 28, was given 18 years for killing 52-year-old Rowena Dupuis and another 18 years for killing her 17-year-old daughter, Karmen, in the same accident. Romero will serve the two sentences consecutively.

Romero, who admitted to being intoxicated while driving prior to the accident, pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter in August. He faced a maximum of 20 years incarceration on each of the two reckless manslaughter charges.

These sentences could have been stacked, which means he faced a maximum of 40 years in prison.
