Father, daughter die in auto crash

Two members of a Fontana family died and two others were injured when their car was hit by a car driven by a suspected drunk driver, according to the Fontana Police Department.

Desiderio Lopez, 45, and his daughter Danielle Lopez, 16, were fatally injured in the crash, which occurred on April 14 on Sierra Avenue north of Summit Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office.

Juan Venegas Macias, 35, of Pedley was arrested on felony DUI charges and vehicular manslaughter, police said.

Police said Macias was driving northbound on Sierra at 11:22 p.m. when his black 2002 GMC drifted into the other lane and struck the vehicle driven by Desiderio Lopez.

Desiderio Lopez and Danielle Lopez were pronounced dead at the scene, and two other passengers in their car were transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

—— Suspects arrested in real estate fraud case

Three suspects were arrested at their place of business in Fontana last week by investigators from the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Unit.

Fanny Velasquez, 52, and her daughter, Paola Garzon, 31, both of Victorville, were arrested and charged with fraud. Velasquez' adult son, Andres Garzon-Velasquez, also of Victorville, was arrested for allegedly interfering with and delaying a police officer.

The arrests took place at Fanny's Glass in the 8800 block of Sierra Avenue.

The D.A.'s office said that in December of 2003, Velasquez and Garzon allegedly used the identity of their victim to purchase a residence in Victorville for $177,000.

The victim discovered her identity had been stolen in August of 2004, when she tried to purchase a residence and was denied a mortgage loan because of her credit report. The report showed she was already making payments on a home in Victorville.

The victim said she did not know Velasquez or Garzon and she had not given anyone permission to use her personal information to purchase a house.

Velasquez and her family had been living in the home from the time it was allegedly illegally purchased.

The victim filed a complaint with the D.A.'s office, which investigated and filed three felony charges of identity theft, false impersonation of another, and forgery against Velasquez and Garzon.

The suspects were transported and booked into the Sheriff's West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Bail was set for Velasquez and Garzon at $250,000.
