SANTA ANA – An 18-year-old Anaheim woman died a day after the car she was riding in was rear-ended by a suspected drunken driver who ran after the crash, authorities said.
Corbin White died Monday afternoon at Western Medical Center – Santa Ana, according to the coroner’s office.
Robert Charles Serrano, 36, of Chino Hills, who left a bar shortly before the fatal accident, was arrested at the Fountain Valley home of a relative. He has been charged with one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one felony count of fleeing an accident scene, according to court records.
Serrano is expected to appear in court this afternoon for an arraignment hearing at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. He is being held at
In 2005, Serrano pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and has been cited for traffic violations, court records show.
White was the passenger of a 2006 Toyota Scion that was stopped on Main Street and MacArthur Boulevard at a red light when a 2006 BMW sedan slammed into it around 2 a.m. Sunday. The impact pushed the Scion into the intersection causing it to collide with a Chevrolet Malibu that was going to make a left turn from westbound MacArthur to southbound Main, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
The BMW also spun into the intersection and struck a Toyota Corolla, which was behind the Malibu waiting to make a left turn, Bertagna said.
After the crash, Serrano got out of the BMW and ran from the scene of the accident. He was later arrested, Bertagna said.
White was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries, Bertagna said. The driver of the Scion was also taken to the hospital. The other two drivers were not injured.
