Family remembers mother and son killed by suspected drunk driver
OREM, Utah — Season and Toby Dow were sitting in their car, stopped on the side of the road when they were hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver.
The mother and son were headed home from an Andrea Bocelli concert when they ran out of gas. They pulled off Interstate 15 in Orem and were waiting for roadside assistance when a driver drifted into the emergency lane, striking their car. Season Dow was killed on impact while Toby Dow fought for his life in the hospital for two days.
“This just didn’t need to happen,” said Duane Crabtree, Toby’s uncle and Season’s brother-in-law. “We just are going to miss them. We are never going to be able to replace them.”
“We are never going to be able to replace them and it did not need to happen.

Family members described Season Dow, 43, as an amazing mother and beloved third-grade teacher who had just started her teaching career at Brookhaven Elementary this fall.
“Season was just a light to everybody she knew. She was such a happy person and had a zeal for life,” Crabtree said.
Toby Dow was a sophomore at Timpview High School. Family said the 16-year-old was a loving brother who had a close relationship with his mother. The two worked together at a local restaurant for a couple of months during the summer.
“He was just such a kind-hearted, loving kid with no guile. He was just going to be amazing,” Crabtree said.
Family members hope this accident serves as a reminder to never drink and drive. They don’t want these deaths to be in vain and hope others learn from the suspected drunk driver’s mistake.
“I hope she can find healing. I hope she can learn from this and never make this mistake again,” Crabtree said. “We have got to do something to stop drinking and driving.”
Investigators said the driver had no injuries and was transported to the section office where she was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
Season and Toby Dow will be buried together this weekend. Friends have set up a GoFundMe* account to help with funeral expenses.
