Dear NCCU Community:

Ciara GeeI am saddened to inform you of the passing of beloved Eagle Ciara Gee, 20, a junior kinesiology major. Ciara passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021, in a tragic car accident.

A native of Raleigh N.C., Ciara was known to be a positive influence on campus who kept her peers and friends uplifted with laughter and encouragement to pursue their academic goals. Studying toward a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in sports medicine, Ciara was dedicated to staying on track to one day reach her ultimate goal of becoming a physical therapist.

I ask that we collectively keep Ciara and her loved ones - especially her mom Sharon Leonard; father Jerry Gee IV, who remains in the hospital; stepfather Michael Leonard; brother Jerry Gee V; and close family friend - in our thoughts and prayers.

The Counseling Center is available for students who would like to speak with a counselor and can be reached at 919-530-6106; please ask to be connected to the counselor on duty. The Office of Spiritual Development and Dialogue also has staff available for consultation at 919-602-6967.

More information regarding funeral arrangements and NCCU’s campus vigil will be shared when available.

In Truth and Service,

Johnson O. Akinleye, Ph.D.
