Longtime cheer coach of teen killed in Dixie Highway crash: 'She lit up the room'
A teenage girl is dead after being struck by a wrong-way driver in Louisville.
The crash happened Monday night on Dixie Highway, and police say the man who hit her was in a stolen car, had stolen firearms and was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
After the crash, 17-year-old Madelynn Troutt was taken to UofL Hospital, where she died.
WLKY learned the Troutt was a cheerleader for several years. Her longtime coach Joshua Duncan shared some kind words and photos.
He said she was "one of the most hardworking athletes I ever coached." She cheered under him at Valley Xtreme Cheer in Louisville, and also cheered at Butler High School.
Duncan said she always had a bright smile on her face, and "lit up the room wherever she went."
A vigil has been planned for Tuesday night at Butler High School to pray for and support her family. It starts at 8 p.m.
