On 8 November 2008, she was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck north on Buffalo Road just short of Raintree Drive in Clayton, North Carolina when a drunk driver, 29, speeding, crossed onto her side and struck her head-on. The impact threw the Tacoma off the road and onto a wooden fence near the intersection of Buffalo Road and Kentucky Drive, where it came to rest upside down, pinning Adkins – who was wearing her seat belt – in the wreckage. This excuse for the drinking age is that lawmakers supposedly want to reduce drunk driving.
If lawmakers cared about drunk driving, some of these crashes never would have happened.
Obviously, lawmakers don’t really care about drunk driving, they just hate everybody under 21.

Research continues to show that young drivers 15 to 20 years old are more often involved in alcohol-related crashes than any other comparable age group. Alcohol-crash involvement rates, share of the alcohol-crash problem and alcohol-crash risk all reach their peaks with young drivers, with the peaks for fatal crashes occurring at age 21.

This woman never got a chance to drink legally. She was walking down Nashville Avenue in Hammond, Louisiana on 6 March 2009 at 02:00 CST. Allegedly, a drunk driver, 21, ran off the road and crashed into her and the other pedestrians she was with, killing three pedestrians and injuring two. He was taken into custody and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish jail on three counts of vehicular negligent homicide, two counts of vehicular negligent injury, DUI, and reckless operation. Witnesses claim Quebedeaux was driving at a high rate of speed. But at least he wasn’t drinking under age. He had been arrested before for DWI but not prosecuted.

On this site, the initials DWI are used even if another set of initials is used in the jurisdiction where the crime happened, such as DUI, OUI (Maine) OVI (Ohio) or OWI (Wisconsin). Defendant's ages are ages at the time of the crash. Texas may be overrepresented because those cases are easier to find by searching for “intoxication manslaughter,” a legal phrase unique to the Lone Star State. Cached copies may be printer friendly copies of the linked pages, because printer-friendly editions tend to behave better when archived.

To add a double victim: E-mail webmaster (at) udadd dot-com with the subject, ADD DOUBLE VICTIM.

The double victim must not be a passenger of a drunk driver, (who may, after all, have chosen to get into the vehicle) unless the vehicle is a bus.

To add material: Additional material on any of these cases is quite welcome. The webmaster will gladly scan a better photo, out-of-print news clipping or police report you send in. Send a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of materials. Send to Tom Alciere, P.O. Box 106, Nashua NH 03061. Another alternative is to scan the material at Kinko’s and e-mail it to yourself and then to this webmaster and whomever else you choose.
